Epilepsy Journey is designed to teach teens with epilepsy strategies to overcome executive functioning difficulties.
Executive functioning is made up of many different skills, such as 1) organizing, 2) understanding emotions, 3) making good choices, and 4) remembering things. Some everyday examples include difficulty turning in your homework on time, controlling your emotions, remembering to take your medicine, and solving everyday problems. These skills are super helpful and will take practice to master!
Most teens have a hard time with executive functioning, but teens with epilepsy are three times more likely to have difficulties. Don’t worry - these skills can be improved by learning and practicing strategies!
Epilepsy Journey was tested in a past research study and was found to help teens improve their executive functioning skills. Teens and caregivers were also happy with the program, found it to be helpful, and would recommend it to others.
Our goal with Epilepsy Journey is to improve the lives of teens, like you, by teaching skills and encouraging practice. We aim to help teens reach their own personal goals and be their best selves. We would one day like to share Epilepsy Journey with teens with epilepsy across the country.
